ABOUT IPPSA
IPPSA has been leading the Electricity Marketplace since '93
Our Vision. As the leading Canadian independent power producer society, we unite members to support a fair electricity market in Alberta. We boost investor confidence, and prosperity for Albertans by promoting affordable, reliable, clean energy and better energy understanding.
Our Mission. To convene industry, providing information, resources, and a forum for knowledge sharing, and to create opportunities for dialogue, collaboration, and education.
About IPPSA
Established in 1993, IPPSA fostered dialogue among Alberta’s power producers and advocated for market competition in the province’s electricity sector. Since then, IPPSA has played a pivotal role in championing a free, efficient, and openly competitive market. This approach has brought billions of dollars of private investment to the electricity industry and significantly reduced costs for consumers while enhancing efficiency across the industry.

With decades of success through advocacy, IPPSA has shifted their mandate to better align with the diversity of the generation mix in Alberta. Our members collectively invest in, and operate, virtually 100 percent of Alberta’s electricity generating facilities. The diversity of our membership, including investment priorities, allows IPPSA to add value to members by bringing industry together to educate, engage, and drive innovation.

Our members continue to support a fair and well-functioning electricity market that will provide investor confidence to generators while enabling reliable and affordable electricity for Alberta. IPPSA believes in the importance of stakeholder participation throughout the policy development process. Open and transparent dialogue between government and industry is critical to the success of Alberta’s electricity system.
